March 20th Today I set a personal record 28 miles in 6:52. I never stopped running, not even for lunch, (coke stained shirt). The wind for the second time on this run was at my back. First day of spring, and I really wanted to put some distance between me and Amarillo, 28 miles! Well, in the panhandle they don't have much as far as mountains but they brag of the sunrises and sunsets. It's true! And they have been the most generous, yesterday in Amarillo a couple guys, Malcolm and Doug, turned around and they were interested in my run. Malcolm gave me $10.00 towards the Crisis Center, Thanks guys. Then I was so hungry, we went and had a couple big Texas steaks in a nice steak house, dressed in my running clothes and walking like a 100 year old man, I met Stacie Wells (mother and 8 yr old daughter Michaela Wells) and Donna Gordy from Skellytown,Tx. Mommy wanted a picture of me with daughter by a big fireplace. Everyone who wasn't looking before now was and I felt like a celebrity, They gave me $20.00 when I told them the Charity, Thank You. I can see Texans are proud people, as I meet more and more. I met Lowell a couple days ago. He pulled into empty lot and got out of his truck and told me I had guts. Him and his wife do 31 miles once every couple weeks. People sure are friendly in Texas. Its getting warmer. It was 34 at start then 65 when I finished. 1228 miles. March 21st Today was cold and 40 mph northeast winds blew in face and on my side. Ran about 7 miles past Miami, Texas today. Ran 27 miles today, that seems to be the distance I am comfortable with right now. One day this month I might do a 30 mile run. It will be nice when it ever gets warm again. Miami, was a small town of 558 people and it was a clean town and I think they want to stay small and clean. The landscape changed so much during today's run, I see smaller mountains that look like the tops were cut off and flat on top. Small valleys and bluffs, and something I haven't seen in a while TREES!! This is pretty again, I had to look out a small hole in my hood because of strong winds but I seen trees, hopefully I will see the sun again soon. I will be close to Oklahoma tomorrow!!
March 23rd I passed through Canidian, Texas today and fell short of the Oklahoma border by 16 miles. We have a 73 mile drive to start tomorrow. Ran 27 miles again today. Hill after hill today, no flat area but no wind or rain so it's ok. I found a dead snake flattened buy truck. Nothing I hate worse than snakes. A friend said I am hitting Oklahoma during tornado season. Sure why not, I have had it all so far? We are staying in Seiling, Oklahoma for a while now. I lose my nice wide shoulder on Route 60 soon, I will miss Rt 60, I give it an A+ in my book.
March 24th
March 25th Ran 27 miles again today but no pictures. I didn't want to run with the weight. I did pass some pretty stuff though. Pine trees scattered about and rolling hills that are changing to spring colors. Then the last couple miles nothing again just farm fields. Half mile uphill grades and half mile downhill. This suits me fine, slow traffic today so I was able to run on the road mostly, people here seem to move over when they can. It is supposed to rain for two days now. I hope they are wrong. I figured roughly that I would do two states a month so in 60 days I would hit Oklahoma, I am 37 miles into Oklahoma and I have 6 more days of running, I think I am making great time and will be done a little sooner than expected, although I haven't done anything yet!
