Day 18 - Junior
Monday, 01 February 2010 20:28
Well 2 Motrin and lots of ice and lots of prayer, 26 miles today running like one leg was shorter than the other by a foot. 26 miles of waddling down the interstate. It took longer then I want to say but when I am hurt I run scared and the adrenalin is high.

I thought that seeing a bear or a cougar on one of my runs would be the best thing I could ever see. Well when a homeless man holding a cardboard sign asking for a handout at a busy intersection saw me run by,   RUN ACROSS U.S.A. on my shirt, I was  about 50 yards away and he limping with the same hurt leg/ankle as me started calling to me to stop and he just keep running until I stopped. He pulled $5.00 out of his pocket and when he got to me he stuffed it in the collar of my shirt, he would not take no for an answer, as he turned and started to run away I asked his name he said Junior, and I said "God Bless You Junior!" That was the best thing I will ever see no matter what, sorry bear and cougar. He didn't know I was running for people who had fallen on tough times like himself. Amazing!!!!  I am afraid of what my ankle will feel like tomorrow, Pray and Motrin.

Day 17 - Twisted Ankle
Sunday, 31 January 2010 22:21
Well twisted my ankle today and stopped at 23 miles, hurt it at 20 miles. I am icing it and taking Motrin. I hope I will be ok tomorrow.

Day 16 - 406.6 Miles
Saturday, 30 January 2010 19:56
Well 26 miles more total 406 6/10 miles. Rain cold wind in my face all day might snow tomorrow.

Day 15 - Hills
Friday, 29 January 2010 22:04
Well after running 10 miles in wet grass and mud, I got a break for the next 16 miles. 26 more miles towards Morro Bay,Ca.  15 days running 381 6/10 miles. Again nice to run with Drew and Kym yesterday. Starting to get some mini mountain stuff, long up hill runs, the most so far. Western Alabama looks beautiful.Palm trees long gone though.

Raining now but hope it's gone by morning. Moved our accommodations forward to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, stopped 68 miles short of Tuscaloosa. Thinking about increasing my miles I didn't increase miles last time until 30 days of running, we'll see.

Day 14 - Company
Thursday, 28 January 2010 22:11
No pictures today, ran with busy traffic nothing much to see. Ran with Drew today for about 4 miles, he ran up behind me almost gave me a heart attack then pepper spray. Drew had done 7 miles earlier and then had to run back to his car when he left. I fell for the first time ever running and wasn't happy until he showed up. He competes at the half marathon distance. Thanks for coming out Drew you ran further than, or as far as, your friend Kym Klass who came out and interviewed me while running 4 miles. She holds the record for longest running reporter who ever ran with me on any Transcon run so far. She also competes at 1/2 Marathon distance for now. I forget the camera guys name but he did a lot of running with heavy gear, camera's 2ft lens. Kym works for Montgomery Advertiser News. Thanks for coming out. 26 more miles towards California. Easy day.
